you are not (2022) 

This is an ongoing series designed as a response to the unnecessary rejection all of us face from our too-judgmental world. At times it can feel like life is some endless audition and you're never quite what "they" are looking for.  

You're too tall, or maybe too short. You're too young -  that is, until you're too old. Too dark, too light, too thick, too thin. Never right. Those judgements are usually unfounded and arbitrary and limit us in ways we absolutely don't need.  

This is my pushback.

Conceptually this piece is entirely embodied in the instructions so you can absolutely make one! Here you go - and if you do make one, send me a photo or tag me! I'd love to know if when and where this work comes to life. 

Instructional work #1: Series Title: (you are not)

Instructions:
An even numbered set of handmade items with a high level of visual sameness, and name them with sets of paired opposing values or characteristics. There should be one value for each item in the set, ideally something the artist has faced or felt.
