sketches in clay

Turns out I can't draw.

So I have to sketch in clay. Here are a few ideas I've tried - still thinking about some of them.
This is a little boat/dish, small enough for salt. Don't quite know if it's worth pursuing, but i still like him.

Wood Fired

These handbuilt boxes were atmospherically fired in a wood kiln for seven days straight, an ancient technique that produces an organic, almost oceanic surface that's unpredictable and unrepeatable.

They can be rotated on all sides to different effect, and are a striking statement piece. They are a pair and can't be sold individually - they'd get lonely!

kurinuki

My first attempts at this carving technique - this round had VERY thick walls, am working on refining them for better usability.

soda fire

A different type of atmospheric firing, soda is introduced into the hot kiln, producing a natural, reactive glaze with depth and movement. This little guy is the last piece I have left from a firing in the spring of 2018.
