The constitutional amendments that prohibited denying the right to vote based on:
- race 15th - blue glaze.
(hahahahaha - they got us good with that one!) (1870) - sex - 19th - sand glaze.
(again, enforcement was...spotty) (1920) - race again - 24th - green glaze.
prohibited charging a tax as a condition of voting. (1964) - age - 26th - rust glaze.
lowered the voting age to 18 (1971)

I fundamentally disagree with donating to campaigns, it's a setup that invites corruption. We need to repeal citizens united and move to a publicly funded election system. Instead of donating to a candidate, I'm donating to the ACLU, the folks who will be on the front lines fighting to protect your right to vote. |
about this work
this limited series reminds us of the amendments that establish and protect the franchise, indicated with a series of stacked horizontal indentations, marking the amendment number.
there's also a wink to the glorious 'i voted' stickers - i love those as much as you do but i’m here to tell you that by the time you get one of those, the race will be over. i’ve put ‘oh, we votin’. on the bottom of these cups because it’s about the collective, not the individual, and it's a promise, not an after-the-fact statement. and it’s hidden on the foot because voter intimidation is real. there is no need to shout about the work of registering, of getting others registered. do not give them a target. you may think i’m overly paranoid, but go ask lidia martinez about what happened to her in san antonio and get back to me. ps - don’t buy the ‘voting doesn’t matter’ line. if your vote had no power, no one would bother trying to take it away. |
