collaborative coil pot sessions:

Friends - I’d like to invite you to this idea I’ve got...
Potters and clay people know that working with clay is magical, it has the ability to hold complex thoughts and emotions, to preserve and keep them for us. As a material, clay facilitates sharing and conversation like nothing I’ve ever known, and then preserves that moment literally forever. I’ve had the opportunity to see this in a group setting and it resulted in not only a fantastic experience, but a truly beautiful piece. It was so delightful that I’m hoping it might appeal to other groups: an artist-lead clay experience where we make a large format coil pot, infusing the clay with the intangible materials of our thoughts / emotions / memories. It doesn’t need to be a big occasion or commemorate anything, an excuse to have fun. But I can also see it being a perfect experience to celebrate an event for a family sending a kid off to college, or a book club, or nonprofit board, folks getting married. It’s an ideal process for holding hope or worry, sharing joy or grief. So - that’s the idea. I do hope you like it, I'll be doing up to six of these a year, starting in 2024. Scheduling
Get in touch with me and we’ll find a good date. It will need to be at least 6 weeks in advance and I’ll send or deliver the finished pieces 6 weeks after the session. People This could be something for a group of one, and is designed for up to eight. Larger groups are possible - let’s talk. Age range This event is primarily aimed at adults. Intergenerational groups are more than welcome, kids over 8 are welcome when there are enough grownups to supervise them, but it’s not a children’s activity. Pots In addition to the large format pot, everyone will make one (or two, depending on how fast they work!) slab built mugs. We’ll spend minimum of three hours, up to about five. Venue I’ll come to you - local travel (up to 3 hours drive from Tacoma, if you're farther than 3 hours away, let's talk.) I’ll need about an hour to set up, and an hour to clean up after. Pricing Similar to the way I price General Order, I want to make this available to more groups by discounting the rate for small businesses and nonprofits, and even more for individuals and families. Like General Order, the experience will be the same no matter what the rate. The rate includes all materials and tools, event set up and cleanup, finish work and glazing for cups and main piece, firing, delivery or shipping, artist time, local travel (up to 3 hours drive from Tacoma, WA - farther away is possible). Does not include venue or snacks/beverages. $8,000 - $12,000 Corporate rate for boards, retreat activities, or teams $4,000 - $6,000 Nonprofit and small Institutions, small businesses $3,000 - $4,500 Individuals, families, social groups |
