compose (2023)porcelain, iron wash, maple, attention.
|
These sculptures require your participation - each starts with a hand finished hardwood plinth, and your role is to create a visual composition using wafer thin, translucent porcelain "records", using the grooves, light, shadow, proximity, and linework.
The process and resulting arrangement can be a meditative act, record an emotion or memory, express anything that you need to express. I wanted to make something that would demand your attention - the delicacy of the porcelain and the precision required in placing and creating your composition is a task that requires focus - you can't be looking at your phone while doing this, you'll break the records. The act of finding the arrangement that feels and looks right requires you to be 100% present, and the resulting work serves as a reminder of that moment of mindfulness until you change the composition and create a new moment to remember. I hope you like these as much as I've loved conceiving and making them. |
